Honda Menlyn Wings Proudly took part in this Enduro off road race which has been going strong for almost 10 years and is growing year on year. Honda Menlyn was involved from day one and offers their off road customers the opportunity to get involved in a fun day to compete against other amateur riders.
Entries came in that morning from as far as Bloemfontein and entrants queued from 07h00 at the registration office to ensure their place in their respective classes. The atmosphere was very much relaxed, background music was playing and you could smell the aroma of fresh coffee and sosaties coming from the clubhouse. Soon the pit area was filled with bakkies and trailers and riders warming up their engines.
Riders briefing started at 08h30 for the quad entries to inform the riders of the rules and safety procedures. This race consisted of junior, ladies, novice, master, and pro class riders. All riders had to stop at the three marshal points for a mark on their helmets to ensure everybody stays on the route. As the first quads came through the main control point one could clearly see why this event is called “Farm Jam “. Riders covered in mud stopped in their pits to refuel and also get the mud wiped off their goggles. Once the first rider finishes his 5th lap (approximately 30 km per lap), the race is finished and the recovery of all the “breakdowns” begins.
The main event is the two wheeler race which required all the riders to gather at the clubhouse for an information session. Entrants in this race consists of up to 180 riders and safety is a huge priority. Apart from classes from junior to pro class (10 classes) is the “adventure” class now also added to this race. This class accommodate the Honda Africa Twin, BMW GS and KTM Adventure riders. This race also consists of 5 laps of 30km and time keeping is done for each class. The start grid in this race draws a huge amount of spectators. As the classes are set off with a 2 minute gap between them, the 150km route is quickly filled with roaring engines and soon the first few riders are expected to pass through the main control point. Paramedics and a mobile clinic was available on the premises. Friends, family and supporters screaming and shouting as the first riders finished the race.
We are looking forward to the next event and would love to see you there.
