The fuel tank, which is the primary distinguishing feature of the Hornet, is designed to resemble a hornet's wing. The design is also inherently usable for all riders. The riding stance is upright with somewhat rear set foot pegs for natural control and wide handlebars for leverage. Seat height is a very manageable 795mm.

Its short stroke of 63.5mm, coupled with an 87mm bore, delivers astounding high-rpm performance, and with a compression ratio of 11.0:1 and Ni-Sic coating on the cylinders, used in the CBR1000RRR Fireblade and CRF450R, we've reduced friction and heightened durability at elevated revolutions. An assist/slipper clutch, with oblique layout disc segments, offers light lever feel, eases up shifts and manages rear wheel hop under hard braking and rapid down changes.

By eliminating the need for a balancer drive gear, we entrusted the primary drive gear to assume dual responsibilities by spinning the balance shaft as well. This innovation minimizes mass and enhances the engine's efficiency. We also concealed the water pump within the left-hand engine cover, eliminating the necessity for a separate water-cooled oil cooler.
